Our Story

Established in 2012, Larne Camera Club originated from a shared passion for photography. As a member, you'll have access to a range of events and a supportive community of like-minded individuals. Larne Camera Club has a rich heritage, shaped by passionate photographers and a commitment to artistic expression. Here are some key points from its history:.

Founding and Early Days:

Larne Camera Club was originally formed as Island Camera Club in April 2012 by a small number of dedicated photographers who wanted something different. The decision proved to be a popular one, with more than 25 members joining by the end of the first year. The club has grown from strength to strength and is one of the most supported clubs in the province. In April 2015, Island Camera Club was re-branded as Larne Camera Club and moved to Dixon Hall Community Centre. In September 2018, the club moved to Ballygally Hall.

During the Covid pandemic, starting in March 2020, the club began meeting online. In January 2022, the club moved face-to-face meetings in the Greenland Community Centre. As we emerged from the pandemic the club returned to Ballygally Hall. At the start of our 2023/2024 season, the club moved to Kilwaughter Village Hall to allow the club to grow.

Growth and Evolution:

Over time, the club expanded its activities. It organized workshops, exhibitions, and field trips, fostering a sense of community among photographers. As technology advanced, the club adapted. From film photography to digital imaging, members embraced new tools and techniques.

Club Premises and Facilities:

The club is situated in Kilwaughter Village Hall which is a large well well-lit hall just a few miles outside the town of Larne. This venue is suitable for portrait sessions and can accommodate 60 - 80 people comfortably and has excellent toilet and kitchen facilities. We also use a speaker system with a hearing loop facility.

Learning and Passion:

The Larne Camera Club remains committed to learning and growth. Members attend workshops, critique sessions, and guest lectures. Passionate about photography, we explore various genres — from landscapes and portraits to abstract and experimental photography.

Community Engagement:

The club actively engages with the local community. It hosts pop-up shops, exhibitions, and photography events. Through its activities, Larne Camera Club contributes to the cultural vibrancy of the town.

In summary, the Larne Camera Club stands as a testament to creativity, camaraderie, and the timeless art of photography. 📸
